The weekend is here, the weekend is here!

sarah yates lou mora wedding max wanger

I’m looking forward to soaking up the last bits of sun (since August refuses to slow down) and maybe attending this, which couldn’t possibly be anything but pure fun. Any great plans of your own?

I’ll leave you, as always, with a few things I’m loving this week…

Sarah and Lou’s beautiful wedding, shot by Max Wanger.

Mark started a fitness blog!! And it’s really (really – I swear it’s not just because I’m biased) good.

We’ll miss you more than you probably ever knew we would, Peter Bis. I’ll try not to eat too many cookies and cupcakes… even though you won’t be there to remind me.

I love t-shirts, so naturally I ordered 3.

I been wanting to know how to do this to my hair!

Crack pie.

Networking lessons from Ugly Betty.

Baby boy prep — for the coolest baby boy.

OMGOMGOMG.

I really want to throw Mark a birthday party that rocks as much as this.

Happy Friday!

Happy Weekend!

It’s Friday, it’s not raining, the Olympic Opening Ceremony is tonight, and I have two brand new bathing suits in the mail that are just dying to spend the entire weekend by the pool.

One. Happy. Girl.

That’s me.  Hope you’re looking forward to the weekend just as much as I am!

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Currently Obsessing Over: Calligraphy

Actually, it’s a little embarrassing just how much I’ve managed to obsess over calligraphy these past few months… something about this one little element of design manages to bring out the crazy like few things can.  Colors, materials, big letters, small letters… I tell you, I’ve found things to obsess about that no sane mind ever should.

But I’m happy to report that yesterday, I officially boxed everything up and sent it off!  Soon, our invitations will be ready to go, our place cards perfect, and our table numbers set.

Calligraphy is far from a requirement at any event, but I, for one, just can’t get enough of it.  I swear I would calligraphy everything if I could.

What about you?  Do you love it just as much?

And would you still obsess over the details?  Even though someone else is taking on the bulk of the work… and it’s basically guaranteed to be gorgeous, even if you don’t obsess at all?

Ya… that doesn’t work for me either.

Happy Friday!

So tonight is my 10 year high school reunion… and, sadly, I won’t be there.  All of this planning plus a few unscheduled trips adds up to zero extra time money anything, so there was just no way we were going to be able to get our little bottoms back to Oregon for the weekend.

And that’s totally okay.  This year has been – and is going to be – so crazy good that I couldn’t ask for more… and I’ll be there in five years for 15, I promise.

But oh how I am missing my Oregon today… crisp summer mornings by the river, nights on the dunes, the freshest air and a cool breeze that I swear just does not blow the same anywhere else… this is the absolute best time to be in my home town.

Did you/will you go to your high school reunion?  Or does that kind of thing sound sort of awful to begin with?

Whatever you’re up to, I hope your weekend is full of fun!

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Tec and Chelsea Petaja for Kinfolk.

Telling secrets.

This is decidedly not on the diet… mmm.

The bridal beauty paradox — thoughts?

Happy Friday (the 13th!)

I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I’m totally superstitious.  I’ve always cringed a little when someone opens an umbrella indoors or walks under a ladder.  I can’t help it… it’s a gut reaction, and I’m not even sure where it comes from.  I don’t think my parents have the same paranoia… just crazy ol’ me.

Anyone else do the same?

And (just curious) how’s your day going?  To be honest… mine has been pretty great.  So far…

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Okay, I know I’m kind of obsessing over these shots but, come on, sooo pretty.

This awesome little table.

This beautiful wedding toast (that even made me tear up a little… and I don’t know them) and amazing advice.

Garlic naan.

With this blackberry gin fizz OMG.

This chick — who is hilarious.

Anyone watching the Tour de France?  I’m not gonna lie, we’re pretty obsessed.  We’ll be taking it easy this weekend and tuning in for all the fun.

Friday.  You’re killing me this week.

I mean, “around 105“?  Up to 110 on Saturday?  The map is red, Friday, and I’m not by the pool.  We’re going to have to have a talk with Saturday and rectify this situation, because this is some serious shit.

All jokes aside, I hope you’re all staying cool.  It’s looking to be a pretty crazy weekend on this side of the country, so drink lots of water, wear lots of sunscreen, and do try to have a little fun!

Honestly, I think we’re planning to brave some 110 degree berry picking this weekend.  Crazy? Maybe a little… but I really want those darn fresh blueberries.

How about you?  Any fantastic plans for the heat wave?

The Diet: An Update + My Favorite Healthy Food Blogs

Last time we spoke about this subject, Mark and I had decided to give up sugar and flour and everything else a few other things in an attempt to eat super healthy.

But let’s just be real here.  Eating right is super hard, and having a major event like a wedding looming on the horizon doesn’t always help the matter.  In fact, in a lot of cases, it does the opposite.

So if you’ve gained instead of lost in the course of the whole deal, well, high five.  I’m on your team.

After our failure, and as our engagement shots neared, I began to get desperate.  And despite my deeply held hatred of crash and fad diets, I even managed to talk myself into a couple of fasts… secretly loving the idea that I might be able to cleanse and restart my system, blossoming into the kind of person who dreams of quinoa and kale and shuns all thoughts of cheesecake.

But if there is one thing I really love… it is cheesecake.

Good food, good wine, and good conversation are an essential part of life in my book.  And the parts that make up the whole of a truly good meal are some of my favorites.  Deprivation just isn’t my game.
