Szu & Girish’s San Francisco Engagements

San Francisco Engagement Shots / A Thousand Threads

My favorite engagement shots are always those taken close to home, in the place the couple loves most… so you can imagine how giddy I am over these next shots.

Szu and Girish started their day at the coffee shop where they first laid eyes on each other, then made their way through the city for the most perfectly bright and colorful engagements that shine right through the foggy San Francisco day.

Plus, there’s that little friend they brought along, who shines pretty bright on his own…

Our Engagement Shots: Part 2

We took these shots in what has to be one of the most beautiful, but totally deserted, spots in Agoura Hills (meticulously scouted out by our photographer, Steve Steinhardt, who I swear read my mind) in between cake tastings, food tastings, and a million other little details and appointments.  After all, we had just one trip out to California to get everything down.

With all of our prepping and planning still swimming in my head, I was worried that slowing down and posing for the camera might feel awkward (then again I’m not sure I really need the added stress to feel awkward posing… that’s kind of a given) or something might go wrong, but I think it’s pretty obvious from a few of our shots, laughing my butt off (oh man, if only I could bring myself to share the outtakes… I was in full form, that crazy laugh of mine) that we had a ton of fun.

Within just a few snaps, Steve had us laughing and totally relaxed… and honestly, the whole experience kind of felt like a little getaway from the hustle and bustle of our trip.

Thank you to our amazing photographer for capturing this happy little moment in our lives.  I know, without a doubt, that we will cherish these shots forever.

And just in case you missed it, be sure to check out part 1.

Our Engagement Shots: Part 1

Okay, I’m guilty. I meant to narrow these down to just one post… but it’s just too hard.

I’m not going to say that I love myself in every shot… because really, no matter how gorgeous the pictures, a gal can always find a flaw. But still… the light…

Steve doesn’t have to go far to remind me exactly why we chose him to photograph our wedding… it’s in every little detail of his work. The simple location where we took these shots just shines.

I can’t get enough.

And in case you feel the same, I promise won’t make you wait long… in fact part 2 will be up later today! So be sure to check back.

{Real Weddings} Chris & Autumn’s SmogShoppe Nuptials

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a lovely father’s day weekend.  Austin’s first concert-going experience was a raving success, and his proud papa enjoyed a relaxing dad’s day, barbequing with friends and family and then enjoying a quiet evening at home… watching the final round of the Open.  It’s around these times that I wish I lived closer to my own dad, but I’m thankful that at least we’re able to get together as frequently as we do.

I’m excited to share an extra special treat this Monday, straight from one of my favorite photographers and one of very favorite venues… the SmogShoppe.

If you don’t know about the Shoppe, it really did begin as a smog-check center in the 80s, and has been transformed into a 100% solar-powered haven for desert plants, vertical gardens and straight up gorgeous vintage furnishings. In fact, it’s one of the most sustainably designed urban spaces in the United States… and it throws a rockin’ good party.

If you’re planning a wedding in LA, I highly suggest you check it out.

Chris and Autumn are the perfect fit for this super cool venue.  Orchids, clay tile favors, and a ton of personal touches made their day that much more special.  And rather than light a unity candle, these two music lovers chose to sing… striking their first notes together in harmony.

Thank you so much to 39 East for sharing!

Signs of Summer

As the weather warms up, so does my craving for fresh produce.  I swear I could live on the strawberries alone, so sifting through our shots from the Solvang Farmer’s Market has my mouth watering.

Did I mention that I can’t wait to go back?

The Santa Ynez Valley

Pinch me.  This is where I’m going to get married.

This place could not be any more beautiful… and if the weather is not always perfect (which I suspect that it is) it was certainly perfect for us.

We had a lovely flight (Virgin America is the best) and arrived in LA for a quick tour and a gorgeous drive up PCH before settling into our beautiful guest house in Los Olivos.  We stayed just a few miles over the mountain from the place where we’ll be married this November, and got just a little taste of what we’re in for (OMG the sunsets).  In between cake tastings, food tastings (pics of those to come) and more than a few fantastic wine tastings, we took in the sights and ate a seriously copious amount of food at Sides Hardware and Shoes (that brioche french toast?  unreal) and El Rancho Market.

But I have to say, the most fantastic thing about the whole trip was the peace of mind I gained when I realized that each and every vendor we chose was not just great… but drop-dead amazing.

They are amazing… and I can’t say enough.  These people are not just talented, but absolutely wonderful, professional, and kind… I couldn’t be more excited to work with them all this November.

I couldn’t be more excited to go back to this place!

{Real Weddings} John & Mary’s Heartfelt Angwin Affair

Tucked away high in the mountains at Sylvan Lake Estates in Angwin, California, John and Mary’s gorgeous wedding was packed with tons of personal touches… including homemade jam and pickle favors.

(how much do you love the idea of pickle favors?!)

For the best description of the day, just take a look at this lovely note from the bride:

John and I love having friends over for cozy dinner parties and wine nights, and we really wanted our wedding guests to feel as welcomed and comfortable as they would in our home. I grew up in Napa, and we wanted to share the wine country scenery and hospitality we love so much. As soon as we arrived at the Sylvan Lake Estate, it was love at first sight. The home felt like a hidden garden, and we loved the idea of bringing our guests to a place we knew they had never been before. While grey and yellow was our wedding’s color palette. The white rustic farm tables had a casual elegance and my mom sewed all the table runners herself. Our centerpieces came from the farmers’ market, and my bridesmaids and grandma put them together the day before the wedding. I wanted to do a homemade favor, and jams and pickles were the perfect fit. I wore a necklace with my husband’s initials, as well as my late grandfather’s wedding ring. John’s grandfather and my grandmother, each married more than 60 years, held our rings. My father and stepfather both walked me down the aisle, to a string quartet version of the song “Yellow”. After dinner, my new husband and my dad performed a song that they had written together during our engagement. We spent the rest of the night laughing and dancing with our neon glow sticks. It was a night that truly felt like the best backyard dinner party we’ve ever thrown.

Ravayna & David’s LA Engagements

Ravayna and David recently moved from Louisiana to Los Angeles and love their new home… so they decided to take their engagement shots in the city.  They chose the Bradbury Building and the Hollyhock House by Frank Lloyd Wright, and I can’t think of two better places!  Their modern, super-fun shots really show how crazy about each other they are… and that’s the best thing of all.

Gina & Joel’s Downtown Engagements

I’m loving this awesome downtown engagement sesh from JC Page Photography… just look at that shot!

These days it seems like every engagement session takes place in a field, and don’t get me wrong… I loooove a good field, but it’s nice to see something different… especially for a couple that feels more at home in the city.

… and that jacket!  Fall is here and I am so ready for that jacket… now if it was just mine.

{Real Weddings} Matt & Nicole’s Malibu Ranch Wedding

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a good weekend… I have a super fun wedding for you all this morning.  Not only did this couple have a gorgeous outdoor location and tons of cute details, I love how they took their photo booth to a whole new level with super cute costumes and masks… this looks like it was one great party!

From their photographer

There are a lot of things that I love about Matt and Nicole’s wedding. The outdoor ceremony was set against a lush green backdrop of trees and shrubbery; just perfect for them to profess their love and promises to each other. I love the use of DIY decor giving their wedding a more personal and charming touch. Their dessert station also boasted of various tempting treats. While she looked stunning in her Vera Wang gown, it was her exuberance that completed the look. It was indeed her day!

Thanks Carla!!
