A Thousand Threads

Our Registry

registry / a thousand threads1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

We’ve tried hard to make it clear that the best gift our friends and family can give us is just to be there for us on our day (since just that will require almost all of them to travel, and we know that’s a lot) but we decided to set up a registry for anyone who might insist.

We’ve been adding to the collection over time, working slowly and throwing in a few things we need and a few that we’d just love to have.  When it turned out a lot of our dishes were cracking, we added some pretty new bowls.  When we ran out of candles, we realized it couldn’t hurt to add a few to the list.  It’s been a really easy way to tackle the big project that a wedding registry can become… and it’s worked out really well for us.  There are so many things to think about it the last few months of wedding planning that I’m thanking my stars we were able to get this one out of the way early and a little at a time.

Welcome to the Weekend!

gorgeous fall hair / a thousand threads

Today we had a long talk with our officiant, and I couldn’t help but think how surreal it all is.  We’ve been planning for this day for nearly a year and a half, but it’s always felt so far away… almost like the moment would never come.  But now we’re down to the final details, and not just the little ones… we’re talking about the marriage itself, and the reasons we want to be married at all… our background, our beliefs… everything that brought us to this place, and every little thing that makes us want to travel on.

And it’s kind of amazing… all of this is almost real.  I’m sorry to spill my sappiness all over you tonight but… you guys.  I really can’t wait.

Here are a few things I’m loving this week…

Gorgeous fall hair (anyone know the original source of this awesome shot?).

These beautiful DIY save the dates.

Myra Callan of Twigs & Honey is making wedding gowns. (OMG)

You’re welcome.

Why women should stop trying to be perfect — thoughts?

Margaret Atwood’s 10 rules of writing.

I might be particularly partial because it was shot on the coast of Oregon, but this gorgeous little engagement shoot.

I really need to make me some granola.

Living and working with intention and supporting others who do the same.

Happy Surprises

1 // Learning that one of my very best friends (who has had a crazy amazing busy year and I am so so proud of her — so I totally understood when she said she wouldn’t be able to make it) just bought a ticket to come to our wedding.

2 // Coming home to fresh seared scallops and cider with rum.

3 // … not to mention a clean house and an empty basket of laundry.  That guy, he knows just what to do to tug at my heart.

4 // A sweet gift for Austin from his soon-to-be step-gramma.

5 // Realizing that after months (maybe years) of work with no change at all, I’m running just a little bit faster.

It’s been a stressful couple of weeks, with tons of work and the wedding right around the corner, but in the end… it’s always the good stuff that comes out on top.

Currently Obsessing Over: Calligraphy

Actually, it’s a little embarrassing just how much I’ve managed to obsess over calligraphy these past few months… something about this one little element of design manages to bring out the crazy like few things can.  Colors, materials, big letters, small letters… I tell you, I’ve found things to obsess about that no sane mind ever should.

But I’m happy to report that yesterday, I officially boxed everything up and sent it off!  Soon, our invitations will be ready to go, our place cards perfect, and our table numbers set.

Calligraphy is far from a requirement at any event, but I, for one, just can’t get enough of it.  I swear I would calligraphy everything if I could.

What about you?  Do you love it just as much?

And would you still obsess over the details?  Even though someone else is taking on the bulk of the work… and it’s basically guaranteed to be gorgeous, even if you don’t obsess at all?

Ya… that doesn’t work for me either.

Our Engagement Shots: Part 2

We took these shots in what has to be one of the most beautiful, but totally deserted, spots in Agoura Hills (meticulously scouted out by our photographer, Steve Steinhardt, who I swear read my mind) in between cake tastings, food tastings, and a million other little details and appointments.  After all, we had just one trip out to California to get everything down.

With all of our prepping and planning still swimming in my head, I was worried that slowing down and posing for the camera might feel awkward (then again I’m not sure I really need the added stress to feel awkward posing… that’s kind of a given) or something might go wrong, but I think it’s pretty obvious from a few of our shots, laughing my butt off (oh man, if only I could bring myself to share the outtakes… I was in full form, that crazy laugh of mine) that we had a ton of fun.

Within just a few snaps, Steve had us laughing and totally relaxed… and honestly, the whole experience kind of felt like a little getaway from the hustle and bustle of our trip.

Thank you to our amazing photographer for capturing this happy little moment in our lives.  I know, without a doubt, that we will cherish these shots forever.

And just in case you missed it, be sure to check out part 1.

Our Engagement Shots: Part 1

Okay, I’m guilty. I meant to narrow these down to just one post… but it’s just too hard.

I’m not going to say that I love myself in every shot… because really, no matter how gorgeous the pictures, a gal can always find a flaw. But still… the light…

Steve doesn’t have to go far to remind me exactly why we chose him to photograph our wedding… it’s in every little detail of his work. The simple location where we took these shots just shines.

I can’t get enough.

And in case you feel the same, I promise won’t make you wait long… in fact part 2 will be up later today! So be sure to check back.

Just a little sneak peek…

Our engagement shots are here and I am sooo excited to share.  Be sure to check back tomorrow, once I’ve had a chance to narrow them down… I love them all too much to choose!

Our Wedding Invitations

You guys, I’m so excited to share this with you today.

Remember our Save the Date?  Well here’s the rest of the package, designed by the über-talented Matthew Novak, who took Mark’s simple pencil sketch of our farmhouse (and a little touch of calligraphy from Neither Snow) and transformed it into something more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.

I literally could not be more happy with how our whole invitation suite turned out.  If you’re in the market, seriously, run don’t walk.

Also?  I can’t believe it’s almost time to send these out.  My ‘knot’ checklist has officially downgraded me to the 2-3 month timeline… when I’m actually pretty sure it’s still 4… and not that I’m nitpicking or anything, but the head trip isn’t helping.

Just sayin’.

Our Caterer: O Street Food Truck

Speaking of all of those things we’ve checked off the list, this has to be one of the most exciting. You might remember that about halfway through planning we decided to scrap our plans for a super expensive caterer and hire a food truck.

The decision was part of a series of changes that I have not regretted for a single second. If anything, I think they’ve made our wedding a whole lot more fun.

And as an added bonus, O Street’s food is better than I ever could have guessed.

With a menu ranging from French pastry pizzas and banh mi sandwiches to the perfect pommes frites, O Street takes traditional street food to a whole new level.

And I haven’t even gotten around to mentioning their super friendly and awesomely helpful owner, Liz.

If you’re in the Santa Barbara area, take my advice and track them down. I promise you won’t regret it.

And who knows, maybe you’ll even want to use them in your wedding!

Guest Post and Proposal Pics on Kaptur

After spending the majority of my morning begging the computer gods to let me into Target’s website so I could buy this (#2), I had happy surprise… well, two if you count the fact that patience is, apparently, a virtue, and I eventually got in.

The real news is that I received a super sweet email letting me know that a recent guest post I wrote for Kaptur’s blog is live.  The post is all about Mark’s amazing proposal, and I used Kaptur’s awesome service to create my own little slideshow of the event!  I even included a little background music.

Kaptur is a really great way to gather everyone’s pictures, videos, and updates from your wedding into one central location — you can even upload directly from Facebook!  It’s easy (and really fun) to make slideshows and share them with anyone and everyone you know.

Thanks to Kaptur for including my story on the blog!  I hope you’ll all check it out, and take a look around their site while you’re there.
